Since 2000, the global prevalence of anaemia in women of reproductive age has been stagnant.

If I must see and quote from the WHO report, the overall the global prevalence of anemia in women aged 15–49 years remained almost as good or bad as it was in the year 2005.

It appears the prevalence of mild anemia increased slightly from 2000 to 2019, while moderate anemia declined slightly from 14.1% in 2000 to 12.7% in 2019.

Severe anemia also decreased from 1.7% in 2000 to 1% in 2019.

Though the total number of women diagnosed with severe anemia may be comparatively much less than the combined figure of those with mild or moderate anemia, however the clinical and cost significance is substantial. Severe anemia is more likely to increase maternal, perinatal, neonatal, infant risks with increased incidences of low birth weight, and poor growth and development in babies. Did the WHO report miss out a critical analysis in its report?
